Every year we give you a little taste of the songwriting awesomeness that goes at the festival by bringing a few of writers who will be performing there.

This year we welcome hit songwriters Jamie Floyd, Anthony Smith, Billy Montana, Joe Denim, Rachel Holder and Frank Myers.

We welcome back a great singer, songwriter and performer, Tim Rushlow. Tim was the lead signer for the bands Little Texas, Rushlow and Rushlow Harris. But now he’s back to being Tim Rushlow, and along with his Big Band, he’s made the really cool switch to classic big band music. Really, really great stuff!  His new album comes out just in time for Christmas, Home for the Holidays ,which features an awesome mix of classics and brand new Christmas songs.

The is week’s guest is two-time Grammy nominated hit songwriter, Jan Buckingham.  She’s had countless cuts on everyone from Pam Tillis to Whitney Houston, from Lee Greenwood to Englebert Humperdinck to the Osmonds! Jan has had songs placed in movies (A Thing Called Love – My Cousin Vinny) and hit TV shows (Friends, Hollywood Wives), she owns 14 active publishing companies and has acted on stage and screen. Oh, and she was even a school teacher for 4 years! We’re gonna have a alot to talk about!

Our first hour features bluegrass recording artist, Amanda Cook. Amanda’s first album, her self-released One Stop Along the Road, made it solidly onto the national Bluegrass charts, a major feat for any independent artist. She has since signed with Mountain Fever Records and is releasing her second album, Deep Water, this week.

Jim Vest

Jim Vest is a musician, producer, actor, songwriter, publisher, singer, and leader of the world-famous Nashville Cats. Jim’s talent on the steel guitar has made him one of the top A-team recording musicians in the world. He is the recipient of the Super Picker Award, for musicians who have played on million selling records. He’s recorded with a “who’s-who” of country music, including the likes of Waylon Jennings, Wille Nelson, The Statler Brothers, George Jones and many, many more. But wait! There’s more. As a songwriter, his songs have been recorded by artists like Charles Louvin, Johnny Paycheck Verne Gosdin and George Jones. Add to this a long list of Movie and TV credits from Hee Haw to The Grand Old Opry Live, and you’ve got one heck of a career!

We’re excited to visit with Kip Winger, a man who is not only a 90s hard rock icon with his band, Winger, but also an extremely talented musician, producer, songwriter and composer of classical works performed by symphonies around the world.

A Tribute to John D Loudermilk

The recently departed John D. Loudermilk was a renowned songwriter and member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Some of his friends got together and staged a tribute concert that was recorded and filmed for PBS. We welcome three of the participants of that concert event, singer Beth Hooker, Grammy Award winning musician and Hellecaster, John Jorgenson and ace drummer, songwriter producer, singer and member of The Fabulous Superlatives, Harry Stinson.

Coming to from the 6th Annual Smoky Mountain Songwriters Festival in beautiful Gatlinburg, Tennessee. After playing a bunch shows for great audiences, we threw and after party at Crystelle Creek and invited some great songwriters to come and strut their stuff for you. We had great time and hope to will to listening to our Smoky Mtn Songwriters Festival After Party!

He’s been a contributing author for 8 books, including the #1 New York Times best selling “Chicken Soup For The Soul” series and is currently doing a residency on Branson, MO, leading an All-Star cast as the Musical Director for the #1 rated concert experience in Branson RAIDING THE COUNTRY VAULT.

Billy Yates

Billy Yates is a Nashville based singer/songwriter whose songs have been recorded by artists such as George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Sara Evans, Gary Allan, Joe Nichols, Chris Young, John Michael Montgomery, Daryle Singletary, The Oak Ridge Boys, Gene Watson, Rhonda Vincent, and more. Yates also co-wrote the George Jones classics, I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair and the Grammy-award winning, Choices. Billy is currently one of the featured stars of the top-rated live musical production, RAIDING THE COUNTRY VAULT and recently released his latest album, Melodies and Memories.

It’s dynamic duo night featuring guests The Darlins & Dailey and Vincent!

We get to visit with two of our favorite guys in Nashville, Dailey and Vincent. They are Grand Ole Opry Members, Five-time GRAMMY® award winners individually, three-time GRAMMY® award nominees collectively, four-time DOVE Award winners, and winners of 35 IBMA Awards altogether, including 3-time IBMA Entertainer of the Year Award winners and 3-Time Vocal Group of the Year Award winners. Whew! Plus they are so much fun! Their latest project is called Patriots and Poets.

The Darlins

As part of our Smoky Mountain Songwriters Festival preview, we’re going to be visiting recording artists, The Darlins. They play what they call “bluegrass with a smoky eye” and will be playing at the the festival.

The Smoky Mountain Songwriters Festival in Gatlinburg, TN runs August 16-20, 2017 and feature a whole list of hit writers. Check out the Darlins, then come on out to the festival!

After 67 years in the music biz, countless IBMA, CMA and Hall of Fame awards, seems like Bobby is just catching his second wind! His latest CD project, Original, was just released by Compass Records to rave reviews, he had a blistering set at Bonnaroo and you can still regularly hear him peel the paint off the Grand Ol’ Opry walls singing his hits such as Ruby and, of course, Rocky Top!

We love having Chris Wallin on the show because he’s such an amazing talent and one of Nashville’s most sought-after songwriters. Dave Rowland

Hit recording artist  and Hall of Famer, Dave Rowland, is the founder of  the hit trio, Dave & Sugar. Dave was the first G.I. to receive a theatrical scholarship from the army, which he played the trumpet and was vocalist in the 75th Army band. HE was a member of the famous gospel singing group, J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, who also sang backup Elvis Presley. Dave and Sugar’s its include Queen of the Silver Dollar, The Door Is Always Open, Tear Time,  I’m Knee Deep in Love With You, Don’t Throw It All Away, Golden Tears, plus many others. Dave is a member of the North America Country Music Associations International Hall of Fame.

Jim Parker is an award-winning songwriter whose hits included very first single for artist John Anderson called I’ve Got a Feelin’ (Somebody’s Been Stealin’) and well and Anderson’s stealth hit, Chicken Truck. Jim is the creator and host of a popular show at the Von Braun Center Playhouse in Huntsville, AL called Jim Parker’s Songwriter Series, where he showcases the incredible talent of hit songwriters from Los Angeles, Canada, Georgia, Nashville, TN, Muscle Shoals, AL, and surrounding areas.

Bob Morrison

Bob Morrison is a hit songwriter who was named ASCAP’s Country Songwriter of the Year in 1978, 1980, 1981 and 1982, as well as NSAI’s Songwriter of the Year in 1981! Big hits with artists like Conway Twitty, Oak Ridge Boys, Kenny Rogers and the Dixie Chicks! Bob was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame last year, along with our pals Aaron Barker, Beth Nielsen Chapman and Townes Van Zandt. A VERY short list of his hits include You Decorated My Life for Kenny Rogers, Lookin’ for Love for Johnny Lee,  You’re the One for the Oak Ridge Boys, and Tonight the Heartache’s on Me for The Dixie Chicks.

We welcome back hit songwriter, singer and comedian, Joe Denim. Joe’s songs include the hit song Pray for You for Jaron & the Long Road to Love and many parody songs for artists like Cledus T Judd, like Cover of The Field and Stream, All About The Bass, Truck Buddies.  Joe’s also a great musician,  touring with artists like Steve Holy and Uncle Kracker.

Sonny Curtis

Then we get to visit with someone who is actually a musical legend. Sonny Curtis wrote I Fought The Law And The Law Won, the theme song to The Mary Tyler Moore Show, as well as songs recorded by everyone from Bing Crosby to Tom Petty, the Everly Brothers to Green Day! Sonny was also a member of Buddy Holly and the Crickets as his lead guitar player. He’s a member of NSAI Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

This year we welcome some songwriting heavyweights, as well as some newer talents, to give you a little taste of what NSAI’s Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival is all about. Both are great songwriters and former members of the infamous Musik Mafia with really amazing stories of how they got to where they are. They’ve got a brand new project coming out called New North.

Shelly Fairchild is a long time friend of the show and one of our favorite singer/songwriters in Music City. Her hits include You Don’t Lie Here Anymore, Kiss Me and Tiny Town. As writer, Shelly’s has cuts with artists including Little Big Town, Lee DeWyze, Maggie Rose and many others. She’s got a brand new project out called Buffalo that is awesome!

This week we welcome guests Jenny Gill and Mathew & Gunnar Nelson.

Jenny Gill

First up is singer/songwriter, Jenny Gill.  With her debut project, The House Sessions, Jenny unveils an autobiographical collection of songs that blend blues, Americana and Country to create a sound and style that is as unique as she is. Gill, of course, is country music royalty: Her father is Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill and her mother is Sweethearts of the Rodeo’s Janis Oliver. Her stepmother is Christian superstar Amy Grant, with whom she has toured as a back-up singer for the last six years. It can be both a blessing and a curse to have such a prestigious background.

Mathew & Gunnar Nelson

Then we visit with the Nelson Brothers, twins Mathew and Gunnar Nelson.  They achieved success during the early 1990s with their double platinum debut album After the Rain, which featured the number-one hit (Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection. Matthew and Gunnar also continue to honor their father, performing under the name of Ricky Nelson Remembered. They are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family to reach number one record status in three successive generations (beginning with grandparents Ozzie and Harriet Nelson).

Wilson Fairchild

First up are recording artists, Wilson Fairchild, a country music duo made up of Wil and Langdon Reid. As the sons of two of two Country Music Hall of Famers,  Wil and Don Reid of the Statler Brothers, they were born into Country Music royalty and are carrying on that musical tradition. In addition to their work as recording artists, the “Reid Boys” are highly respected songwriters, with cuts on artists like the Statler Brothers, Ricky Skaggs and Dailey & Vincent, as well as many others. They have a new album out called Songs Our Dads Wrote, which is a tribute to the songs their dads wrote as members of the Statlers.

Kelly & Ellis

Then we visit with recording artists Kelly & Ellis, a husband and wife duo with several hits between them as songwriters. Leslie Ellis is a Grammy Award winning vocalist who has sung with many artists, including Celine Dion on My Heart will Go On – from the movie Titanic, for which Leslie won the Grammy. Casey Kelly is a hit songwriter whose songs include Anyone Who Isn’t Me Tonight for Kenny Rogers & Dottie West, Soon for Tanya Tucker and The Cowboy Rides Away for George Strait. Their debut album is called The Long Road To You.

Wanda Jackson

Wanda Jackson is a singer, songwriter and musician who was one of the first popular female rockabilly singers and a pioneering rock-and-roll artist. She is known as the Queen of Rockabilly or the First Lady of Rockabilly.” After rockabilly became less popular with audiences, she move into a mainstream country music and went on to have a string of hits. Her rockabilly career had a resurgence a few years ago when the genre become popular again with Americana audiences. Wanda is a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame.

Jamie Floyd

Hit songwriter and artist Jamie Floyd is like so many songwriters in Music City, holding down a day gig while pursuing her musical dreams. Those dreams got a turbo-boost recently when artist Ashley Monroe recorded her song The Blade, making it the title cut on her album – which was Grammy- nominated Best Country Album. Jamie’s songs have been featured in TV shows and movies, like Lifetime’s Manson’s Lost Girls and ABC’s Nashville. She’s got a brand new album out called Sunshine and Rainbows and was featured in a recent documentary called The Last Songwriter, along with other heavy-hitters like Garth Brooks, Alan Shamblin, Jim Lauderdale, Tom Douglas, Tony Arata and others.

This week we welcome guests Colin Linden and Jeannie Seely!

Colin Linden

First up is Blues Grammy-nominated songwriter/recording artist/producer, Colin Linden. Colin’s work as a musician is prolific, having appeared on over 400 albums to date for artists such as Emmylou Harris, Robert Plant and Allison Krauss.  As a producer, he’s credited on over 100 albums and as a songwriter, his songs have been recorded by artists including Keb ‘Mo, The Band and The Blind Boys of Alabama. His own trio, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, has been  wowing audiences for over a decade.

Jeannie Seely

In the second half of the show we’ll be joined by Grammy Award winner and Grand Old Opry member Jeannie Seely. 2017 marks Seely’s 50th year as an Opry member. Her career as a recording artist and hit songwriter is legendary in Music City, with her songs having been recorded by legends like Faron Young, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Ernest Tubb and Little Jimmy Dickens, as well as many others. Jeannie has brand new album out called Written in Song, which features  her versions of 14 songs she wrote that were hits for other artists, including those mentioned above.

We’ve been talking ABOUT him for over a year, but now we’re going to talk with songwriter, producer and A-List studio/touring musician, Buddy Hyatt! As a songwriter, he’s had songs cut by Kenny Rogers, David Frizzell, Sammy Kershaw and so many others. As a keyboardist/percussionist, he has toured with some of music’s biggest artists, like hit rock group Toto. As a producer, he works with so many Country Music greats and Nashville newcomers on full projects, like George Jones, Dailey & Vincent, Jo Dee Messina, Lee Greenwood, Tracy Lawrence, TG Shepherd and so many more. Of course, Buddy is our go-to guy for songwriter demo sessions.

Natalie Hemby

We’re super excited to welcome award-winning hit songwriter Natalie Hemby in the second half of the show.  Natalie has a truckload of hit so far with songs like White Liar, Automatic, Baggage Claim and Only Prettier for Miranda Lambert, Downtown for Lady Antebellum, Pontoon and Tornado for Little Big Town and Drinks After Work for Toby Keith. Natalie has a brand new album and documentary out called Puxico that chronicles what she calls “the roots of her inheritance.” Really good stuff!

Hugh Prestwood

After many years of trying to line this up, we are very excited to welcome Emmy award-winning, Grammy nominated, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame songwriter, guest Hugh Prestwood.

Hugh has had a number of hits over the years, including Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart, a #1 for Randy Travis and BMI Song of the Year, Ghost in this House, a hit for Shenandoah and Alison Krauss, On the Verge for Colin Raye, Savannah Fare You Well for Jimmy Buffet, Bing Bang Boom for Highway 101 and, of course, his Emmy-winning and #1 for Trisha Yearwood, The Song Remembers When.

Hugh has also taught advanced songwriting for over 20 years Manhattan’s The New School, as well as for NSAI all around the country. He’s got a brand new album called, I Used To Be the Real Me.

Helping us get in the Christmas spirit this week are hit songwriters and recording artists, T. Graham Brown and David Ball!

T Graham Brown

T Graham Brown has recorded over thirteen studio albums and charted more than twenty singles on the Billboard charts. Three of these singles reached Number One and eight more reached the Top Ten. Brown’s voice is also recognized from his singing in advertising campaigns for McDonald’s, Disneyland, Almond Joy, Coca Cola, Dodge Truck, Ford, Hardee’s and many others including the Taco Bell Run For The Border television spots. His hits include Wine in Water, Tell it Like It Used to Be and Darlene.  Brown’s 2015 release Forever Changed was Grammy nominated for Best Gospel Album.

David Ball

Then we’ll be joined by hit recording artist David Ball. Ball’s hits include Thinking’ Problem, Hot Water Pipe, and his classic, Riding With Private Malone. He’s got a holiday album out called The Greatest Christmas, which features a few holiday favorites, and several original soon-to-be classics.  As a special Christmas present to his fans, he’s also included previously unreleased versions of two of his biggest hits.

His hit include One More Day for Diamond Rio,  A Good Day To Run for Darryl Worley and Country for Mo Pitney and Bill Anderson. His new album is called Out of Road.

Anita Cochran

Our second hour guest is hit songwriter, recording artist, producer and multi instrumentalist Anita Cochran.  Anita was the first first female recording artist to write, produce, write and play multiple instruments on a debut record, which lead to several hits over the course of her career, including (I Wanna Hear A) Cheating Song with Conway Twitty, Good Times and her #1 hit duet with Steve Wariner, What If I Said.  Anita also made a foray into acting with a starring role in the TV movie The Ducks of Hazzards in Hollywood, along with writing four songs for the project.

Michelle Lewis

First up this week is award-winning songwriter and founder of SONA (Songwriters of North America), a creative rights advocacy organization. From her first radio hit, Cher’s A Different Kind of Love Song in 2002, to last year’s worldwide number 1 single Wings by the British girl group Little Mix, Michelle’s experience as a touring and recording artist herself allows her to bring a highly credible and artistic touch to her cuts and collaborations with a diverse array of artists – from pop star Katherine McFee to pop band R5, and from singer/songwriter, Shawn Colvin to the classical trio Il Volo. SONA is currently suing the Justice Department in an effort to raise streaming royalty rates for songwriters.

Shelly Peiken

Shelly Peiken is a hit songwriter who is best known for co-writing the #1 hits What A Girl Wants and Come On Over Baby for Christina Aguilera, Bitch for Meredith Brooks and Almost Doesn’t Count by Brandy. She has also written for Britney Spears, Natasha Bedingfield, Keith Urban, Celine Dion, Cher, Reba McEntire, NSYNC, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Aaliyah, Selena Gomez, Idina Menzel and Demi Lovato and others. Shelly is the author of a very popular songwriting blog, and now book, called Confessions of a Serial Songwriter.

Sonny Throckmorton

The Frank Brown Songwriters Festival is upon us again this year, so we’ll chat with hit songwriter (understatment of the year!) Sonny Throckmorton. Sonny is a Nashville success story like no other with over 1,000 cuts by artists ranging from Merle Haggard to Chris Young. He was so prolific that during one three year period, there were only 2 weeks without at least one of his songs on the charts. Sonny has won just about every award there is and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Johnny Rodriguez

Then we’ll visit with pioneering hit songwriter and recording artist, Johnny Rodriguez. Johnny was the very first Mexican-American singer songwriter to hit it big in Country music with over 15 number one singles to his credit and many more top-tens. Hit hits include Ridin’ My Thumb to Mexico, That’s the Way Love Goes and Just Get Up and Close the Door. Johnny is a member of the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame.

Jim Collins

First up is hit songwriter, Jim Collins.  Jim has had more than 150 of songs cut, including songs like Jason Aldean’s Big Green Tractor, Gretchen Wilson’s Grammy nominated I Don’t Feel Like Loving You Today, Chad Brock’s Yes!, and three big hits for Kenny Chesney, She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy, Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven and The Good Stuff, which was Billboard’s Number One country single for 7 weeks of 2002.

Jane Bach

Our second hour features veteran Nashville musician, producer, author and award-winning hit songwriter, Jane Bach. Jane is a thirty year, veteran Nashville musician, producer and hit songwriter. Jane has had stand-out hits and cuts by the likes of Reba McEntire with the #1 song The Last One to Know, JoDee Messina with Dare to Dream, Collin Raye, Ray Price, Tammy Wynette, and the Oak Ridge Boys as well as numerous other artists. She’s also had many TV placements in shows like ABC’s Lipstick Jungle and Nashville. Jane is the author of the book Songwriting and the Music Business and has taught Master Classes in songwriting at Vanderbilt University.
